History of Oak Brook Fertility Center
OBFC was established in the spring of 1990 by Drs. W. Paul Dmowski and Nasir Rana to fill the need for a free-standing, state-of-the-art — yet patient-friendly — facility dedicated exclusively to the management of infertility. From 1971 until the establishment of OBFC, Dr. Dmowski practiced infertility at different Chicago academic institutions. During this time he developed and directed fertility programs at Michael Reese and Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Centers, Christ Hospital, and Grant Hospital. In 1983, he established one of Chicago's first IVF programs at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center, and then another one at Grant Hospital of Chicago in 1989. In the 1970s, Dr. Dmowski was on the faculty at the University of Chicago. He currently holds the rank of Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Rush Medical College. Dr. Dmowski founded, and for many years directed, the Fellowship Training Program in reproductive endocrinology/infertility (RE/I) at Rush Medical College, where Dr. Nasir Rana was one of his graduates. Following his Fellowship Training, Dr. Rana became associated with Dr. Dmowski in the practice of RE/I at Oak Brook Fertility Center.
Because patient care at major medical centers is frequently "9 to 5,” fragmented, and impersonal, the need for a free-standing, independent fertility center developed. This became possible during the second part of the 1980's with the introduction of ultrasound-guided oocyte retrieval and other advances in reproductive technology. Thus, OBFC was established. It was the first such facility in the Chicago area and one of the first in the country.
Our philosophy is to provide our patients with a full spectrum of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the field of reproductive endocrinology/infertility (RE/I) using state-of-the-art facilities, modern technology, and the highest quality — yet personalized — medical care. To accomplish this, we have developed medical, office-based, comfortable, modern facilities which have been granted full accreditation by healthcare organizations. Our physicians are double-board certified and are recognized nationally and internationally in the field of RE/I. We continuously upgrade our laboratory equipment, adopt new cutting-edge technologies, and have our staff learn new skills through continuous medical education. By limiting the number of new patients and assisted reproductive techniques (ART) cycles per year, we provide individualized attention to each couple.
Our fully accredited facilities include the following:
- Clinical offices
- Endocrinology laboratories
- Immunology laboratories
- Andrology laboratories
Our IVF Suite includes:
- Oocyte retrieval/embryo transfer rooms and recovery rooms
- Embryology laboratories

Why We Are Unique
As a free-standing facility with the sole purpose of providing couples with the gift of a child, Oak Brook Fertility Center is truly unique. Because we are dedicated exclusively to fertility treatment, we often treat couples who have been turned down by other facilities. If a couple is deemed statistically undesirable for treatment, some facilities may not serve them as they do not want to risk negatively influencing their success rates. This is not the case at Oak Brook Fertility Center. We do not preselect our candidates based on the likelihood of a successful outcome. Instead, we pride ourselves in taking on challenging cases while maintaining our high rate of success. It’s the least we can do for those who would like nothing more than to have a child. And because we are committed to the latest in fertility treatments, you won’t have to go to different fertility clinics for different treatments. Instead, all your needs can be taken care of by our team of fertility experts. With an accreditation from The Joint Commission, a private organization overseeing medical care, you can be sure of the safety and quality of the fertility care we provide.
If you would like to schedule an appointment to speak with our team of experienced, compassionate fertility specialists, contact Oak Brook Fertility Center today.
